3 things you need to know as you Travel in the year 2025
The beginning of the year always comes with the feeling and need to be reborn/ or renewed. Travelling is the best way to get that sort of rebirth.
It is human nature to have a heart’s desire to have conquests and explorations that ultimately soothe our souls and travel does fulfil this part of us.
The rejuvenation that comes with discovering new places, enjoying the culture and making new friends is priceless.
The only conduit that can offer a cocktail of all these experiences leaving you with timeless memories is travel.
However, to fully enjoy and immerse yourself in the experience there are 5 things you need to know as you plan your next vacation.
Paradise is now
Covid Experience: During the COVID-19 lockdown, the writer experienced true presence for the first time, disconnecting from work emails and focusing on personal connections.
Lamu: The writer spent time in Lamu, a secluded archipelago, where they experienced peace and tranquility. The town's beauty, exclusive nature, and the stunning sunrises and sunsets were highlights.
Nature and Culture: The writer enjoyed the gentle ocean waves, sandy shores, and the local culture of Lamu, including sailing through picturesque sunsets on traditional dhows.
Fresh Start: Lamu provided an opportunity for a fresh start, away from the pressures of the outside world, allowing the writer to fully embrace the present moment.
The only way you get to enjoy your holiday is by being in the now and letting tomorrow and yesterday be exactly that.
Being present is something that we all miss out on, especially in our fast-moving world which kind of dictates that we have to be updated on the current affairs of the world by being present online.
During Covid, I remember was the first time in my life that I felt present in the moment. I didn’t check my work emails, only rang those who mattered and most of the time I just spent it with the people I was with.
I got stuck in a small archipelago called Lamu. A town that is so beautiful and exclusive, the sunrise and sunset were to die for…
The bubbly ocean waves drifted to the sandy shores as they foamed as the ocean pulled back.
It is a place I would recommend if you are looking for a fresh start.
The fact that the town was so far off from the world, and the restrictions that came with COVID-19, I did get to enjoy everything the town had to offer.
From its amazing people, the beautiful culture, picturesque sunset as we cruised through the sailing dhows. I have the most beautiful moments of my life during that time by just being in the now.

Memories are forever
The second thing that comes to mind is that diamonds are forever…Ooops!!! I meant memories are forever.
I always have a list of things that I will do in any place I visit to make it the most memorable…
I remember my first trip to Zanzibar; I did a whole 4-day cruise in a Swahili dhow to tour the whole island on water. I have never been so scared and thrilled at the same time.
I remember feeling very significant and insignificant at the same time when we were in the middle of the ocean just vast amounts of water.
When the waves rocked our little boat, the horror of just being in motion and having captains navigate the small boat with nothing but instinct, grit and experience to find the waterway and right current. Well, it is just a memory that I will tell the tale till and old and grey.

Fortune favors the brave.
The last thing you need as you travel in 2025 is having bravado.
I mean have the bravery to make yourself uncomfortable to immerse yourself in all experiences and cultures.
I mean, how else will you say that you have lived? Get that adrenaline from going on a safari, climbing a mountain as you get to witness the big 5, going to the sandy white beaches and snorkeling with the dolphins or going extreme as you hunt down the whale migration.
With the feeling of being brave, you will discover that happiness did exist on the other side of fear and your braveness did take you to the other side.
A place filled with laughter, screams, excitement and most of all a slice of happiness and memories to last you for a lifetime…

"In Lamu, I learned that sometimes the best memories come from pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. I decided to take a dhow cruise around the island, which felt both thrilling and humbling. The ocean’s vastness made me feel so small, yet so alive. The experience of navigating the waters, with nothing but the instincts of the captain and the rhythm of the sea guiding us, was surreal. I also braved snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by playful dolphins—a reminder that fortune really does favor the brave. Lamu isn’t just about relaxation; it’s about embracing adventure in a place that balances both serenity and excitement perfectly."

"What struck me most about Lamu was how much it invites you to immerse yourself in its culture. The local people are incredibly warm and welcoming, and their sense of community is something you can’t help but admire. I spent my days exploring the old town, with its stunning Swahili architecture and vibrant markets, and my evenings were spent on traditional sailing dhows, watching the waves drift by as the sky lit up with hues of pink and orange. The peacefulness of the island, coupled with the rich history and culture, makes it feel like stepping back in time—a true escape from the modern world."
